Very unprofessional
I have been a patient at the Traverse City Thirlby clinic for several years at this point. Overall I am a very healthy individual who rarely visits the doctor’s office. The only thing they regularly assist with is prescriptions for insulin due to my lifelong type 1 diabetes management. I have not been to see Dr Vantil in about a year. Normally he has been reasonable and pleasant. I have never had an interaction like I’ve had recently with their staff. Recently they have been hounding me to come in for a physical. I have politely declined, due to already having a medical certificate from the US Coast Guard done this year (which is essentially a more in depth and invasive physical). I got a clean bill of health with well managed diabetes, no restrictions.
My insulin prescriptions expired and while asking for them for new prescriptions, they declined my request because I had been refusing to make an appointment with them.
Then I received a letter in the mail stating they were refusing to continue my care at this clinic and recommended I find a new PCP. The letter stated that they would assist with emergency needs for 30 days. In my situation, Insulin is a necessary life prolonging medication, and I would consider not having a prescription to be somewhat of an emergency. I find it concerning that they would deny this and essentially say good luck getting into a new PCP before you run out completely.
I have tried to call them multiple times and get in touch for an explanation. The front desk refused my request to speak with the doctor, but said that someone would call me back. Fast forward 2 weeks, they have deleted my account (well before the 30 days) so I can no longer access my old lab work, message the clinic, or request refills. I called them multiple times over the next week with similar denials and no call backs. I did finally get somewhat of a response from the front desk, stating that it is clinic policy that I have a yearly physical done with them. Since I have declined this physical, they are dismissing me from the clinic as a patient. They would not accept the medical certificate from the USCG despite it being more clinically in depth and within the standard timeframe. They also stated that Dr Vantil refused l to speak with me unless I made an appointment. I was unaware of the policy until now, and no one had bothered to explain it to me up to this point. Although ridiculous, if it was explained earlier this situation could have been avoided. Instead they chose to deny my care with haste, and minimal contact.
Im not sure what the point of having a doctor is if they wont speak to you when there is an issue. In my opinion this seems like an insanely unreasonable situation and I thought it was important to share with others so that we all might avoid a situation like this.

I like that we always have a conversation on a person level because she always is ready to listen to what is happening with me. She takes the time to do that every time. I feel in good hands!

Dr. Adams has been my Primary Care Physician for the last 7 years and he is one of the most knowledgeable and caring physicians that I have had the pleasure of knowing and being treated by. His care and treatment has been the best of any Physician that I have had treating me in my 72 years. His sense of humor is excellent as well!

Dr. Hunter takes her time with you and is a good listener. She explains everything well and is very caring. Truthfully , I was worried changing providers, but now the more I get to know her, the happier I am.

Dr Cook is the best doctor I have ever seen in my 75 years. She is majorly understanding and truly works with her patient to encompass the ritual of the visit in having her patient totally surrounded by her intelligence and focus. I wish all doctors were as professional and caring.

She is absolutely wonderful. She listens to your needs and always lets you ask questions. As a female starting perimenopause, she was kind and understanding. I feel like I am heard and understood. We need more doctors like her!

Dr Kern, is great, he answers all my questions, he takes his time not in a rush and is very caring. Dr. Kern arrives totally prepared and I am very fortunate to have him as my Doctor, I would and have recommended him to others as a patient.
