Dr. Is always kind , and caring about my well being! Always listens to me !! Gives me his best treatment & sound medical advice!! I like all the girls thete , and especially love Leah!! She’s the best ! However, I don’t like the building ! Never have ! My BP goes up every single time I walk thru the door !! Just saying ! I felt as though Dr. Weichert did a thorough interview of my medical history. He took a lot of time with me and never made me feel hurried. I have all the confidence that he is interested in trying to figure out any causes to my pulmonary embolism. Thank you Dr. Weichert!

Overall tremendous experience at Thirlby. Well treated by all staff and Dr. Alvarado, who established me as a patient and tended to an acute ailment I was experiencing. My only suggestion would be to ask more pointed, inquisitive questions at patients for why they may/may not be doing something in regards to their health. I expressed to Dr. Alvarado that I was not on any form of contraception due to wanting to start a family, but not actively trying to get pregnant right now (though we are in a good position if a pregnancy were to occur). Pregnancy was a concern at this particular visit. He remarked that not being on birth control means I’m not not trying to get pregnant. I am aware of this, and didn’t feel it warranted an explanation. Instead I feel judged and having to defend an informed decision that I have made after being on some form of contraception for the last 16 years. Some more pointed questions into why I was cycle tracking with FAM (which is not to be confused with traditional rhythm method) and for how I’ve been successful on this for nearly a year now would have made this feel more of a two-way conversation, instead I felt judged for why I was practicing this method.
I am 32, married for 8 years, educated in Maternal & Child Health with a Master of Public Health from George Washington University. I have included this not to boast, but rather for context. I taught contraception for 3 years in Kalamazoo as well as pregnancy/STD prevention. I am aware of what not being on contraception means in a literal biological sense, and I do not want to be judged for it. Had we had an open conversation and Dr. Alvarado asked about what led me to these decisions, perhaps my feelings would have been different.
While I know not everything can be discussed in a brief appointment, I would hope that more thorough examining behavioral questions are asked for all patients, including those with substance use disorders or weight management issues, to try understanding root cause and perhaps offer suggestions for behavioral modifications/referrals. I like to think that this is being practiced at the clinic.
I won’t let this one statement sour my entire experience. However I felt inclined to mention it because it stuck with me after the appointment. I appreciate Dr. Alvarado’s overall care and the care of the entire team at the Thirlby Clinic. I hope that our relationship can continue to grow and we can have further productive and open dialogue on health during future visits.
